Inaccurate geo-tagging

    I already noticed that as well. I live on the border of Munich (Germany) but when I take a photo at home it shows "Unterhaching" which is a small town outside of Munich nearby.

    I guess that's because Monument doesn't count the whole city area but one POI which is in the city center. And I am nearer to central Unterhaching than to the Munich center.

    That is a really strange behaviour.

    Hallo Anton, das ist doch a echta Schoas, oder? Da wir geografisch nicht so weit auseinander sind, geh ich davon aus, dass es bei Euch auch ein Sakrileg ist, wenn der falsche Ort angegeben wird … Goisern und Gosau - 15 km Unterschied aber beide trennen Welten! Und sag nie zu einem Gosauer "Gioserer" - oder Du willst neue Zähne ;-)

    @Gunther @Anton

    Regarding our geo-tagging. Monument has it's geo-database and it tries to match the same city in the metadata of your photo.

    However, sometimes errors will occur if the city in your photo is on a border or is under a certain population size. In this case, it will display the next closest city.

    Unfortunately, you will not be able to manually select the correct city because it's not in Monument's database. We are looking to improve this in the future :)

    I am living in Munich. I don't think it's under the certain population size. But what are you counting as a border? I am on the outer rim of the city but it is still well inside of the city area.

    So what is measured here? The distance to the city center alone? That would explain the result, but it's not a very good way to do that.

    Just to illustrate what happens here I made a drawing. ;)

    I am the red dot and the green dots are the city centers of Munich (big circle) and Unterhaching (small circle).

    Not just that - the island I live on only has the option of the main parish, and not the other 12... so if we're out on the other side of the island, I have to match it with the town - very annoying!

    Or could we have a map so we can tap where the photo(s) were taken?

    I also have problem with geotagging and it looks like it works just as Anton Zeigler mentioned

    Some places doesn’t even exist according to the map. The island Rhodes is not possible to tag manually.
