With a main photo it is easier to regocnize an album.

  Yes, That would definitely be a good feature! I use it all the time when setting up albums in Facebook. The default pic is not always useful or appropriate.

  Yes, agree.
  I noticed a similar feature is available for people to change the default picture for a person. The ability to change the default picture for an album would be good too.

  If two pictures could be shown for an album, then one default one and another that auto selects a collage of miniaturised pictures from the album would also be good.
