I suspect due to whatsapp privacy all meta is removed on sending to protect that anonymity.

Also isnt Whatsapp a hugely reduced quality of the original? if you download it to phone or PC and try to use is they are usually tiny files and quality only useful on the phone.

    @Phil

Even if it removed meta data, Monument is putting the date on, so the program could put the time on too... at least that would maybe a be more accurate rather than 12:00:00 all the time.

It's Whatsapp, I don't have the original photos, otherwise I would download them rather than take the pics from the Whatsapp app.. :)

I take your point, but it still will not be the photo taken time it will be the message received time, which is probably a file creation time/date. at least that what my whatsapp photos are looking like on Android. Hope you get your feature :)

I agree with you Phil, but there are times someone else takes the pic on their phone and I say, "Whatsapp that to me please", so the time won't necessary be off. If I do it, then I know I won't be the only one!

However, this is a bug bear rather than essential... so I can wait :)

    Hi Alison,

Just to follow up on this.

When you receive a photo over Whatsapp, Monument uses the date it's received on your phone as Whatsapp removes all the metadata and changes the resolution.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help.

So why can't Monument use the TIME it's received too? - it always says the time is 12:00:00 Please see the attachment. Having it take the TIME received, I think, would be a good idea, and just an extension of what it does at the moment (i.e. taking the date).

Thank you Allison for sharing the screenshot.

In this example, Monument could not find any metadata and it used the date information available in the filename. Since the time information is missing, it used 12:00.

I discussed this issue with the team and starting from the next release, Monument will compare the filename and file creation dates, and if they match, it will use the time from the file.

    Hope this will be helpful.

Thanks Eric - I now understand how Monument gets the date from Whatsapp. I'm assuming all Whatapps photos rename to that shown on my screenshots.

    Hi Eric

I have noticed that my whatsapp photos are now loading onto Monument with a time. THANKS! I think it's a great option for reasons already stated.

    Appreciate that.
